what the hell is wrong with people?! why are they so damn lazy that they feel the need to plagiarize?! this is all directed at the Harvard sophmore that wrote some teen book but ripped off 18 passages from another author. she even had enough balls to copy a 14 word section verbatim. faaaaantastic. her publisher had given her $500,000 for this book and an upcoming one. what. the. fuck. where are the editors in all of this? can't they submit manuscripts into a turnitin.com type database to figure these things out?! and the girl! oh, it was "unintentional copying". right kid. let's see, you are at one of the hardest colleges ever, you were only 17 when you sold your book, and you got offered a ridiculous amount of money. just man up and admit what you did was wrong, blame it on the stress, the publisher, your neglected/abusive/rotten childhood, your parents, society, Harvard, and anything else that you can possibly think of like every other rat bastard American does, and move on. sell the rights of your life story to ABC or NBC and make a killing and then fade into relative obscurity. tis the American way. i hope, and i know this is mean, but i hope they recall all copies of the book, the publisher breaks the contract and gets back his/her money, and Harvard boots her. it's only fair. if i got caught plagiarizing any paper in school, i would be kicked out and my college career ruined. it's one of the first things you are ever taught in school, don't copy other people's work and try to pass it off as your own. dang these kids nowadays.

oh, and the whole James Frey situation still gets my hackles up. it galls me that his work is still regarded as non-fiction, especially the my friend leonard, and that so many people are making excuses for him. look people, he lied. he didn't just embellish a little bit, but he out and out lied and yet you continue to support him and throw your hard earned money in his bank account. good one. hey, suckers, i have a terrific pyramid scheme to sell you. psht. hasn't anyone ever heard of integrity before? the future of literature is looking pretty bleak.

this rant comes courtesy of *procrastination* one more final to study for and two essays due in nine hours and counting.

today we deep fried..
-1 turkey
-4 hot dogs
-1 sausage
-4 muffins
-10 shrimp
-1 pig in a blanket
-1 thin mint
-1 egg white (failure #1)
-5 potato chips
-2 doritoes (failure #2)
-1 lean pocket, pepperoni pizza kind
-1 sesame ginger chicken breast
-3 slices of steak
-2 strawberries coated in cheesecake and graham crackers (baaaaad idea)

then we attempted to watch tv. somehow our cable box got mixed in with the neighbors and we watched as he ordered real sex on hbo and then perhaps some porn. all we got to see was a commercial. he fastforwarded through all the real sex stuff, which was the segment on people dressing in bondage to be treated as a horse.

next week, deep fried sandwiches, especially grilled cheese and egg salad. i fucking love sunday bbqs.

This has been one helluva day. I...

-got winked at by the guy installing my cable. he sat and chatted with me for quite some time while i attempted to do my homework. he also winked at me quite a few times. there were three guys working on my cable at one point. it was quite overwhelming.
-met a new neighbor. apparently there was a hostage situation three doors down from me on monday. the guy chased his nekkid girlfriend down the street and then back into the house and the cops came and had to do SWAT team type stuff. sweeeeet.
-now have high speed internet! the new e-mail addy is tarad@swfla.rr.com
-went to the old place to pickup some stuff for kiwanis and there were 10 guys throwing sod on my yard and dancing on it to help it set.
-went to kiwanis and some old guy thought i worked there and he ordered me to bring his stuff in.
-went to the post office and was backing out when this guy walking by veered sharply to the right and hit my car. he then stared at me while he walked away. i still don't know what to make of that.
-skipped school and had a very productive day. i should do it more often.

this sunday is my big moving day in case anyone wants to help. you get bbq and beer and entertaining times.

FORT SUMNER, N.M. -- A small -town rumor that sparked world -wide interest about a mouse burning down a house has been found to be untrue.

After 81-year-old Chano Mares's house burned down Saturday in Fort Sumner, news services picked up the quirky story.

"Flaming Mouse Burns Down House" read the headline over an Associated Press story that appeared on TheNewMexicoChannel.com, for example.

According to the initial report, Mares threw the critter in a pile of burning leaves near his home, but it ran back to the house on fire.

A local firefighter said the mouse ran to just beneath a window and the flames spread up the window and throughout the house.

All contents of the home were destroyed, but no one was injured.

Interest in fires has been high lately. Unseasonably dry and windy conditions have charred more than 53,000 acres and destroyed 10 homes in southeastern New Mexico in recent weeks.

The mouse story, however, has been doused by Mares.

"It's really humorous more than anything that a mouse burned down the house," he told KOAT-TV in Albuquerque. The mouse was dead when it hit the burning leaves.

Mares said he trapped and killed the critter and tossed it on the fire.

The flames, he said, probably reached his house because they were driven by high winds.

Capt. Jim Lyssy of the Fort Sumner Fire Department said the rumor probably got started because there was "a little too much excitement" at the time of the fire.

Mares lost everything -- and has no insurance -- but the mouse story still makes him smile.

"I started laughing, and I'll be laughing from now on," he said. "It's silly."

school hates me since there's a month left and a million things due. i have a court case to analyze, a film to analyze, a museum to analyze, and an aspect of local politics to explore. fun. i have all of them started except for the court case. not quite sure what i feel like writing 12 pages on yet. if anyone wants to help critique this stuff, any fresh ideas would be greatly appreciated. i'm too much of a nitpicky asshole for this stuff.

i have a book review due tomorrow afternoon. how bad is it when i have found four mistakes halfway through the book? this guy had a doctorate but he can't the executive orders right? or the little rock 9 situation or the port chicago disaster or rise in popularity of the democratic party? i don't even have my bachelor's degree yet and i knew that shit. how can my professor expect me to read this?!

i wonder if i have any gray hair. i bet i do. i want to find one, pluck it out, give it to my professor, and yell at him for making me have gray hair over these stupid assignments.

"We're proud of being white, we want to keep being white," said Lynx. "We want our people to stay white … we don't want to just be, you know, a big muddle. We just want to preserve our race."

Songs like "Sacrifice" — a tribute to Nazi Rudolf Hess, Hitler's deputy Fuhrer — clearly show the effect of the girls' upbringing. The lyrics praise Hess as a "man of peace who wouldn't give up."

IS THERE ANYTHING CUTER than two identical twin twelve-year-old girls who have a band together? How about if they dress in matching plaid skirts—that ups the cuteness quotient, right? And what if they perform folky versions of classic racist songs by bands like Skrewdriver and Rahowa? Whoa! Now we are heading into the cute danger zone.

Holy shit.

[11 Oct 2005|11:46am]
I made my annual trip to Pennsylvania this weekend. It was a little more eventful since my flight leaving Fort Myers was so delayed that I missed my connecting flight to Allentown and had to spend the night in Charlotte. About 50 other people missed their connecting flights too, so we weren't alone. However, all those people got free meal vouchers and free tickets, and I got a whole lot of nothing. I didn't even get my luggage. Bastards! However, I did sit in the hallway of the hotel, drinking 40s of Bud until 3am. That was good times.

Pennsylvania was miserable for the first two days I was there. It rained so much that the creeks began to reclaim the roads. I found this awesome indie movie theater and about halfway through Thumbsucker, the power cut out. The power didn't just cut out for the movie theater, or the block, but for the entire town. Oh, and the next 4 towns down the road. I took this as a sign to head back to Grandma's. Then I went to the nearest bar, prepared to drink a beer and then go to bed, but I made a new friend!! He listened to all the bands I like and we talked music for hours and then got onto religion and politics. We talked until around 230am, when my mom came in the bar, looking for me, since I had said I would be home about 3 hours earlier and cell phones don't work up there. I laughed.

Finally I was able to watch the end of Thumbsucker, which was amazing, and then I watched Junebug, which was really good, but I didn't like the main actress. They are showing a bunch of good movies this month and I wish I lived there so I could watch all of them. Eh, it's a possibility around the summer.

I went to Indigo Room last night and I met some guy that said he was in Mogadishu for the whole Black Hawk Down episode and I'm hopefully going to interview him for my research paper!! I'm so so excited!!

I love to wake up and have people over. I made pancakes for Tara, Tori, Zec, and my brother because none of us are working today and it's fantastic!!!

school started again. i'm taking 5 classes: constitutional history, the holocaust, history and film, urban politics and problems, and intro to public history. i'm really excited to be taking all of them except constitutional history which is a cure for insomnia.

work is work. some lady yelled at me yesterday since i didn't have paper napkins, only paper towels. apparently paper towels are too unwieldy for her and i ruined her entire ice cream experience.

today my cousins came to the mall and i served them ice cream. i knew they looked familiar but i didn't know why. i asked them why they looked so familiar and they told me they didn't know but i looked like someone they knew. finally we realized that we are cousins. we're such a close family, huh?

i've come to the conclusion that dead animals creep me out. i can't get near them. if i ever have kids and their animals die, i'm going to tell the kid to bury it themself because i sure as hell can't do it.
